It has now been several years since Jacquie Lawson, an English artist living in the picturesque village of Lurgashall in Southern England, created an animated Christmas card in 2000. The e-card, featuring her dog, Chudleigh, her cats, and her 15th-century cottage, was sent to a few friends for their amusement. Those friends sent the e-card to others, and within weeks Jacquie was inundated with requests from all over the world to design more e-cards.
In February 2002 she teamed up with her nephew to create a fully operational online greeting card website, and jacquielawson.com was launched. Nowadays Jacquie has assistance from her niece Sally Lisney and her neighbour Bev Pask-Hughes, who are both talented artists in their own right. As a result, the number of e-cards available has grown to 108. Compared with other e-card sites, this modest total reflects the care and attention to detail which go into making these cards. As a happy customer said recently in an e-mail to Jacquie, "I'd far rather have fewer excellent quality cards to choose from than piles of commercial rubbish!"
Jacquie's virtual greeting card collection now includes a wide range of online birthday cards, Christmas cards, other holiday cards, thank you cards, and so on. These electronic greeting cards feature many subjects including Chudleigh, cats, teddy bears, birds, goldfish, and even a range of pretty floral cards.
Of course, an e-card service of this kind cannot be operated free of charge and to cover the enormous costs of servers and suchlike. Jacquie's entire collection of e-cards is available for a modest yearly membership fee. A one-year subscription allows you to send as many greetings as you like. This reflects a deliberate policy of trying to keep prices low in order to allow as many people as possible to enjoy Jacquie's beautifully prepared online greeting cards.
