When I log on I get a message that I'm blocking your mail

Why am I getting a message that I'm blocking your mail?

We regret we cannot allow anyone to use our service unless the email address they have given us is correct and able to receive our mail.

This policy is forced on us by the increasing problem of unsolicited email (commonly known as "spam"). If we did not do this it would be possible for a spammer to use our service to use a fake address to send out unwanted marketing messages in our e-cards. That might result in our service being blacklisted, which would then stop any of our members from using it.

The major Internet service providers are also clamping down on organisations such as ourselves which send out large quantities of mail: if we send mail to invalid addresses, we might find our mailserver blocked. The reason for this is that many spammers send out mail to random faked addresses in the hope that some of them will get through to addresses which coincidentally happen to be genuine.

Therefore we have in place a system which detects whenever we receive a non-delivery report in respect of an email we have sent to a member. If the report seems to indicate that the member's email address might be invalid, incorrect or disabled, then we automatically stop sending any further emails to that member. To enforce this, we also have to prevent the member from sending out any e-cards from our site, because every e-card may result in a notification of sending and a notification of pickup.

We are very sorry that this is necessary, and we apologise for the inconvenience which it has obviously caused you.
