You should be able to enter messages of up to about 1,000 characters. If the message does not fit into the limited space available on the card, then a couple of little scroll arrows will automatically appear, and clicking on these arrows lets you (or the recipient) scroll up and down through your message.

If the scroll arrows do not appear then either the message is not long enough for them to be required, or you have an out-of-date Flash player. For instructions on loading the Flash player, please follow the instructions here (these are designed for people having problems viewing cards, but the Flash installation instructions are the same).
