When I try and preview a card, nothing happens or I hear a noise or see a "fist"

This is caused by a pop-up blocker.

All our cards are previewed in a "Pop-Up" window - i.e. a separate browser window which pops up, leaving your original browser still showing the page where you selected the card to preview.

Pop-up blockers are used to suppress annoying pop-up advertisements on some websites. However, they also sometimes stop legitimate pop-ups, including our card previews.

Different pop-up blockers use different ways of telling you that they've blocked a pop-up. Some let out a small bleep or other noise, others temporarily change the mouse cursor to a "fist" or other icon.

You may be unaware that you even gave a pop-up blocker on your computer! For example, if you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2, then the new version of Internet Explorer which is included with SP2 has a built-in pop-up blocker. Or if you have downloaded the free Google or Yahoo! toolbars, these both include their own pop-up blockers.

A temporary way to bypass most pop-up blockers is to hold down your CTRL key while you click on the card preview link. Alternatively most pop-up blockers allow you to specify that pop-ups are always to be allowed on specific websites. Since we do not allow any advertising pop-ups on our website, this is perfectly safe to do!

Unfortunately there are a lot of pop-up blockers available and we can't give specific instructions for every one. However, instructions for the built-in pop-up blockers for the most common browsers are given below.

Internet Explorer 6

Click TOOLS, then click POP-UP BLOCKER, then POP-UP BLOCKER SETTINGS. Now in ‘Address of Web site to allow’ add www.jacquielawson.com and click the ADD button. Then click CLOSE, quit Internet Explorer and restart it.

Netscape 8.0

Start Netscape and then go to www.jacquielawson.com. Now click on the small "shield" on the Website tab. Then select the I TRUST THIS SITE button, and click DONE.

Firefox 1.5

Click TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then click the CONTENT menu. Then against "Block Popup Windows" click ALLOWED SITES. Add www.jacquielawson.com to the "Address of web site" and click the ALLOW button. Then click CLOSE, quit Firefox and restart it.
