I have a question about the Circus

Can I purchase the Jacquie Lawson Circus?

We're sorry, but the Circus has now been "retired" and is no longer available for purchase.

General troubleshooting for the Circus

If you have a problem with your copy of the Circus, please start by making sure that:

If you have a problem installing AIR, please check the Adobe AIR troubleshooting page.

The icon for the Circus has disappeared from my screen!

Unless you uninstalled the Circus (and you'd probably remember if you'd done that), then it's still on your computer. You can find it as follows:

Windows computer: Click Start and select All Programs (or similar: it varies a bit according to which version of Windows you have). Check down the list and you should find the missing program listed under "J" for Jacquie.

Apple Mac: Check in your Applications folder and you should find your copy of the Circus there.

I see a blank screen when I try to view the Circus

First, please restart the Circus: click on the Circus icon, and select "Quit" in the menu which pops up, choosing "Yes" to confirm you want to quit. Then open the Circus again from the shortcut on your desktop or Start menu.

If you continue to see a blank screen, try restarting your computer. Then, wait until your computer has fully completed initialisation (you can usually hear when the disk stops moving and the mouse cursor stabilises), before attempting to start the Circus. On some computers this can take several minutes.

I lost my activation code for the Circus

Please read this FAQ: I lost my activation code for the Advent Calendar. These instructions apply equally to the Circus.

I need to re-download the Circus – where can I find it?

If you have already purchased the Circus and have an activation code, you can download it here:

What is that piece of music?

You'll find a button at the bottom of the left-hand side of the Programme listing all the music.

I want to hear the music for the animations, but I don't want music on all the time!

You can stop the music player by clicking Music at the bottom of the main screen, and then clicking Stop in the pop-up window.

Note that if you use the mute button or volume control to silence the music, instead of the Stop/Pause buttons, this will affect not only the main scene, but also all the daily animations.

The Circus runs slowly

Animation is very resource-intensive for a computer, and particularly so where there are multiple simultaneous animations going on. You can alleviate this somewhat by making sure that no unnecessary software is running at the same time as your Circus. If you close all other programs and apps down, then your computer will be able to to devote all its power to running animations.

Please also check the minimum technical requirements to run the Circus.

How do I prevent the Circus from starting automatically?

If you don't want to uninstall Circus altogether, but just want to stop it from popping up automatically whenever you start up your computer, please proceed as follows:

  1. Click the Circus icon to open the main menu
  2. Click Settings, and uncheck the checkbox marked "Start Circus automatically..."

If you have completely finished using your Advent Calendar or Circus, you can of course uninstall it completely – see below.

How do I uninstall the Circus?

Please follow these instructions to uninstall the Circus.
