Little Donkey, Why Celebrate Christmas?

Greetings! This Christmas will mark 2,030 years since Jesus was born. But why celebrate a birthday of a religious figure in history when others, who have accomplished much in their lifetimes, are mostly forgotten? Here's why. Read Matthew and Luke's account to learn how Christ's birth came about. But it is John's gospel that puts it all into perspective, though John never wrote anything about Christ's birth. For him, Jesus had no beginning - He always was! John wrote "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, He was with God in the beginning." John is not talking about Christ's beginning here, but about the beginning of time as we know it. He explains that Christ was there at that same moment causing all things in the universe to come into existence. He was not only "with God", but "was God." Compare this to how some celebrate Christmas today ... Jesus, as a baby, in a manger, helpless, unable to speak a word, and most of all, powerless. If that is all Jesus was, then why keep celebrating his birth? John's answer: Christmas is not about how Jesus was created, but how He was Creator. He created the womb and the woman who would carry Him. His entrance into our world was not a birth but an incarnation, a moment when God the Son took on a human form. Jesus was not a man who became God, but God who became a man. Follow Him to find eternal life - ignore Him and lose it all. That's what Christmas is about. Love to all, Barbara and Larry
